We are sure by now you must have heard of the terrible calamity that befell the people of Kerala. Chengannur was one among the worst affected areas in the floods that ravaged many parts of Kerala.

Our hospital, Sanjivani Multispeciality hospital, though located in Chengannur itself, was a little away from the flood and thus was protected by the mercy of God. Therefore, we in turn, with our staff, were able to provide our best services to the affected people in the society.

Problem History

We have been conducting various medical camps for the flood affected people, in the areas around our hospital. At times, depending on calls and as found necessary, we have been venturing out on local boats to reach the victims, specially to the people who were unable to come to the camps set up for these flood affected people. Also our hospital ambulances were used for visiting the people, where roads were accessible, to provide emergency medical assistance at site or bring them to the hospital for further check up and treatment.

To add to the agony, majority of our staff and some doctors are also affected by this devastating flood. However, in an effort to assist in this unprecedented disaster we, have been utilising all our resources including available medicines, man power, and facilities.

The hospital had created special cell, available 24 hours, for services required to serve these unfortunate people around our hospital.

Though we have managed this far and are continuing to provide services, our resources are getting tightened due to shortage of funds, especially for procurement of medicines for replenishing our reducing inventory and meeting cash requirements for other incidental requirements.

The need is to restock medicines especially Antivenom along with finances to continue to medically support flood affected. We are a family run institution with limited financial resources and are now in a difficult situation with cash flows. We must confess that we are unable to take this financial requirement for an exercise of this magnitude. This message is an effort to reach you for a possible financial help to assist our endeavour as a medical institution with a social responsibility .

I am attaching our records of the camps we have conducted, with the names and addresses of the people who have been attended to, in these camps. The medicines consumed and required in future, anticipating the common ailments that can come up due to outbreaks in the aftermath of the flood, are also highlighted. As we are not a charity institution, we do not have the approval to receive funds in foreign currency, neither have we initiated any such formalities as this is a one time requirement, specifically to participate in this disaster relief operation.
